Welcome Mr. Shippy to Lucy Franklin Elementary!

Principal ShippyHello, Lucy Franklin Leopards!

My name is Seth Shippy, and this will be my first year as principal at Lucy Franklin Elementary. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I am a graduate of the Odessa School District, and received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Missouri. I also earned my specialist degree in administration through the University of Central Missouri’s Collaborative Principals Preparation Program. I have been lucky enough to spend my entire 15 year career working for the Blue Springs School District. I taught at James Walker Elementary for 6 years, and spent the next 5 years as an administrative intern or assistant principal at James Lewis Elementary, Lucy Franklin Elementary, and Thomas Ultican Elementary. I was then named building principal at John Nowlin Elementary in 2016 and have spent the last 4 years there. I am looking forward to starting this year as a Lucy Franklin Leopard and beginning my journey with the LFE family!

As your building principal, my goal is to maintain a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for students. I hope to help build life-long memories and relationships for students and staff. As a staff, we hope to create a learning environment where students thrive academically and develop the confidence they need to accomplish their dreams. Lucy Franklin is a student-centered building that values the input and partnership with all of our families. I believe that each of us play a valuable role in the education of our students, and it is through our collaboration that success happens!

Outside of school, I am a blessed, proud father of three wonderful children. My wife also works as a teacher in the Blue Springs School District. When I have free time, I spend it with our kids following all of their activities. Sports have always been a big part of my life. While at UCM, I competed in both baseball and wrestling. I am a fan of the Chiefs and Royals and enjoy watching them play. I also love the outdoors, and my two biggest hobbies are hunting and fishing.

It is an honor to be a part of the Blue Springs School District, and I count it a privilege to work with your children each day. Each school year brings new excitement and as we work through this year together, I can’t wait to see the growth and success to come!

It’s a great day to be a Leopard!

Sincerely,

Mr. Seth Shippy
Principal

Mrs. Gunderson

We are so happy to celebrate Lisa Gunderson’s 25 years in the Blue Springs School District.  Lucy Franklin has been fortunate to have Mrs. Gunderson as a teacher all 25 years.  She is a perfect example for all of us, by always putting students first and going the extra mile.  We love you Mrs. Gunderson!!
